World Environmental day is celebrated on June 5 from 1974 when it was first celebrated by the UK. The United States says that this day is considered as a vehicle for public awareness of our environment. Every year nearly 140 countries gather together and discuss a major problem faced by the world also making slogans and hashtags for the topic. A country has to host the discussion every year where each year a different country hosts the meeting.

India has hosted these meetings in New Delhi in 2011 and 2018. The 2020 gathering was held in Columbia co-hosted by Germany where they were discussing the topic ‘Time for nature’. Columbia stands first when it comes to animal life and plant life as the Amazon forest is present in Columbia. The 2021 topic for World Environmental day is Generation restoration hosted by Pakistan. There is also a national anthem sung every year on World Environmental day created by Abhay K.

The 2021 year’s concept is about ecosystems. Homegrown Cannabis Co. are trying to maintain the ecosystem. There are a lot of ways to conserve energy that are not renewable, find natural and friendly alternative sources, and reduce the use of energy to a certain extent. Not just discussing on this topic can make a change but us taking part and taking action would make a difference, We may be evolving in technology, aeronautics and many more but we should never forget to give back or save our mother who nourishes us! Just like how J.R.D Tata who is also affectionately called Apro J.R.D said to Sudha Murty,

Give back to society

Also our earth!

If you would like to do something exciting but simple on WED here are some – you can join or create an activity on your own on WED. First start reading any interesting information from WED website and find out the theme and host for the meeting, If your living in the host country then gets ready for some extraordinary activities. The most popular activity people do on World Environment day is raising money for charity or environmental causes like planning a concert and charging an entry with a donation box so that people who would want to donate money can put the money on the box but if you do not want to charge any entry fee you can just ask them to participate in campaigns where they make people keep their place clean by picking litter etc… or ask them to collect a certain amount of litter as an entry fee. Spread public awareness about our ecosystems by planning speeches, poetry, and a lot of performances, and if children are also participating try making performances from children’s inspiring movies like Wall – E. Even the simplest things can make the biggest differences.

To conclude this essay, WED is not just a normal day where you spread awareness only but it is a day where we should take action on our environment to make the future brighter!
