“Brother, don’t forget me. Is your vote for me and my party”… “ what’s the matter of asking son, it is surely for you” these are one of the usual talks at the election time irrespective of the parties and person in our village. No matter whether they vote for them or not, they mentally support the candidates by avoiding a `NO´. The election time could be included as a celebration time for the common people. It helps an individual to realize his original value, his power as a citizen

“For the people, by the people, to the people” the pedestal on which democracy stands. Is this clearly applicable? Whether it is not in effect on our current democratic system. Some candidates get placed during election time by the political party, countable by the individual himself. We vote for them due to many reasons. The elected ones rule. The circle rotates. Is this democracy. Now a day the man doesn’t have the banish to say NO towards the wrong ones or to raise his noise for the right. It becomes much easier to change our slogan than these people. The thing we can simply change these dishonest words….

Indian constitution has legalized the `right to vote ´ by article 326, which says that the elections to the house of the people and to the legislative assembly of every state shall be on the basics of adult suffrage, that is to say, a person should not be less than 21 years of age. It is therefore proposed to reduce the voting age from 21 to 18. The law legalized the voting right as it is one of the fundamental for a citizen. We decide who to be but to be for us. But the truth is that around 30% of Indians who are eligible even not have a voter’s id. Many of them have, by the work of the politicians for their own personal gain.
According to the records population of India in 2019 is around 1366 million, among this 900 million are eligible to vote. But as per the election results highest ever voter turnout was 67.47%. Is this pretty enough? Actually, it is NOT. Why people are stepped back from their own right. We can’t say that many people have personal problems or so. Many of them think that for what? Without me this happens then why should I suffer for this? Does voting become an impudent one? The thing we must remember is our ancestors who fought, died, raised their voices for our independence. They struggled for us to be free. What if we had an autocratic rule?

Compared to the rural area, voters who turn around in the urban areas have a lower percentage. But we know that the literacy rate and employment must be much in this urban region. Probably as education increases the awareness towards social changes and rights must be increased but here it is a downfall. As said above most of the urban is employed with high work pressure. They rode a tough scheduled life, literally a hurry berry life. Most of the people who work in the private sector are forced to work hard without leaves or rest. So the minute itself are used for their personal needs. Usually, the election day must be a holiday for most. Without getting into the election. It is one of the main problems faced by the urban. Yet another one is travel or distance. For example, a man who is working in one of the urban areas may have his vote in his rural hometown or some way far away from his current residence. Practically he will not put effect to vote by overcoming this strain. There is also a group of people who doesn’t even want to be involved in this process.

Awareness for the educated ones is not much needed. There are ways by which we can overcome the downfall of urban turnout. Let the voters, a facility to vote around a fixed area they live in or to increase the availability, privacy, and security of postal votes. Timely remind the voters about the voter’s id and their renewal. Provide a fixed time schedule for voters in each area or increase the number of polling booths in order to reduce the time consumed or to make a small schedule.

`Votes´ are our fundamental right. Don’t misuse or overthrow it. Directly or indirectly it writes our future or even us…..
