Swipe, Scroll, Repeat is probably be the tagline of Gen-Z if it was a company as a whole. When world happenings and surrounding occurrences did never move a pin in a Gen-Z’s life but a mobile notification shook his/her own world, brain rot was probably the conclusion. It feels like a pencil that got blunt because of over writing, well writing is a good activity but is scrolling one? Brain rot refers to the inability in critical thinking and decision making, the feeling of dullness, stagnation or decline . We can’t blame them either. There are external forces that influence them on a large basis. One can easily say that it does leave an impact on their mental health.

What causes Gen-Z’s brain rot?

Several reasons behind brain rot include

SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION

The addiction towards various social media is probably the next pandemic prevailing amidst the Gen-Z. Failing to upload a single second of life on snapchat is such a loss or missing a snap streak consistency would turn the world upside down. It is indeed ‘weird’ to not have social media in Gen-Z. I am indeed weird. What do you think would support this kinda attitude? If existence had a mouth it wouldn’t have spoken a word except spitting on the faces of people who never even understand the difference between public and private conversations of life. Boom! Now that’s a brain rot.

MENTAL WEAKNESSES

Someone more sensitive than the black and white heroines can only be found in the Gen Z, I mean nobody else can be bloody depressed if Instagram crashed or Swiggy delivery partner fee is more than fifty bucks. Every single depressing factor is using a gadget as a medium, well even if it wasn’t virtual, end of the day it does cause a mental weakness of holding an inability to focus or concentrate. Having a healthy relationship is a ‘so far, so good’ product, but the multiples must be strong enough to not cause a mental weakness. A study in the US revealed that Gen-Z is into the most toxic relationships using virtual mediums.

OVERINVOLVEMENT RESULTING IN LACK OF TIME MANAGEMENT

When the virtual world controls reality, the overinvolvement of Gen-Z in certain parts of it pushes them into lack of time management. For example, e-games like Free Fire, COD. etc, are extremely addictive and time consuming, which most of this generation over involved into. One would have never had a nightmare of watching seasons of a series overnight before the lockdown took place.

What and How can the Brainrot be prevented?

Self-control is one of those words which has lost force lately. Postponing is one of the most significant spoils in Gen-Z today, I mean life is so uncertain that tomorrow is still a question mark, why not be perfect up to date? While tomorrow makes everything easy today, something would for sure make it hard enough some day is a basic understanding that as humans we must have. Ok sure, now call me a boomer.

Physical Health

Well web series and movies don’t let us to, I understand. The technology inclined moving world does never let the user get out of his seat, and even if he does, he takes his phone along. I mean come on, how many of you use it in the restroom is the wrong question, how many of you don’t is the right, no hands raised..? Movements in one’s joints are highly essential as water and air. The activities of a human body are being strapped due to the sync with technology. Well that’s great, but you must be alive to enjoy it basically, logic.

Mental Stimulation

Exercising mental health is an important element in this process. Learning from the surroundings and communicating to the mediums is one of the most creative ways to escape hardships of life. Stimulants are those that are omnipresent. Approaching the right one’s at the right time will also enhance the observing and identifying skills of a personnel. Reading can also be one of those engaging activities to take up in order to gain knowledge and vocabulary. Stories are also one of those energy driving sources in life.

Attempting crosswords, sudokus and rubixcube are also a few mental exercises to take up

Social Engagement

Involving oneself in their family and friend groups is one of the rarest wonders Gen-Z can ever see. While making time for them is one of the basic courtesy and love we can show, the time you spend with them can also lead you to a lot more understanding and decision-making by their side. Debating and discussing social topics and volunteering towards societal help are a few ways to engage socially.

Relaxation and Stress Management

Human tendency includes panic and stress as a trademark. Initially it’s hard to follow as probably accepting that saying or writing is quite easy.

Meditation is again a very highly encouraged and ever-changing life hack to overcome stress and relax to the maximum.

Yoga is one of the greatest therapies to stress and enhance a human’s focus.

Hobbies can also help you relieve stress as you attempt something you love while you are down.

Digital Balance

Balancing your screen time is the most sensitive and significant part. Be it a work at home or a reel addiction, sometimes controlling your screen time makes it more simple and easy for every single thing that you’re going through. Like Indian moms, “Stomach pain? Keep watching your phone!”. But on a serious note, reducing your phone time can make your life lively, a digital detox probably. Even when you have screen time, using it wisely is upto your fingers that scroll.

Self-Challenge

Set your goals high so that you take a lot to achieve them while making sure that nothing would interrupt you by then. Step out of your comfort zone and take risks to be in that position you dreamt. Practice critical thinking by analyzing your decisions and your future plans to combat your own challenges.

Professional Help

It’s never wrong to ask for help when you’re capable of doing one when you can. The point of people being psychologists, counselors or psychiatrists is to help. Indeed, professional help can give you a hand if you feel you need so.
