The world adores strength, not weakness. Our young people should bear this in mind. If on the cricket grounds the batsman strikes four sixers in succession, youngsters applaud in great excitement. Isn’t it adoration of strength, energy, and drive? So, power, energy, and drive receive universal acclaim. Honestly, the strong man is befriended by all. The weakling is left alone or pushed aside. Wisdom lies in increasing our strength in every way, using every opportunity that comes upon, till our body and mind hold intact. We should also develop our intellectual and ethical powers.
Swami Vivekananda said, “Strength is life; weakness is death. Strength is happiness, life eternal, immortal; weakness is constant strain and misery”. He urged his fellowmen: “What he wants is a muscle of iron nerves of steel, inside which dwells a mind of the same material as that of which a thunderbolt is made”. The weak man just gets destroyed, also instills in others the tendency towards exploitation and perpetuation of violence.
The youngsters may get dishearten and disappointed by many happenings around. They must recognize that however inscrutable and disheartening life may be, the strength needed to overcome the deficiencies does exist near us, right within us. The forces required to sustain life: guidance, strength, support, inspiration, peace are within us. The words of Vivekananda should reverberate in the heart of every youngster: “You are the maker of your destiny”. These words are like reviving sparks of life. They are the driving forces for noble action. Every response of ours to every physical sensation produces its impression on ten thousand million cells in our brain. The total of these impressions is what makes our personality. William James, the famous psychologist rightly said, “The lord may forgive our sins, but our nervous system never does.
So for good or evil, we are the architects of our future. Samuel Smiles says, “Strike up one good thought, that may inspire you to one good deed. Take up one good aid, that may lead you to one good morality. Cultivate one good habit that may mould your whole conduct. From your good conduct should issue your good fortune”.
Would you take heed at least now? Would you take advantage of the tremendous power latent in your mind and body that is a miraculous machine? Then you would bring about a radical change in your life. Add to your personality, principles such as punctuality, determination, loyalty, and steadfastness. Then, you are your support system with all your strength.
