Marina Beach: the 2nd largest beach

Sea and beaches have always fascinated us. Tamil Nadu holds the pride of having 2nd largest beach in the world and biggest beach in India also the biggest in Asia the marina is a urban sandy beach in bay of Bengal it cover a distance of 6.0km [ 3.7 miles] the marina beach is the biggest tourist attraction of Chennai this is also popular by the shops and food stall run by 1212 vendors and also some rides for both kids and adults in which they can enjoy. Sir Mountstuart Grant duff, the then Governor of Madras from 1881 to 1886, was highly captivated with the wonderful beach and built a promenade along the beach which was open to the public in 1884. It was layered with soft sand and named as the Madras Marina. The marina also have an endangered species which is ridely turtle it have the mating in the month of October anda april However, with the expansion of the shrimp trawling fishery in the eastern coast of India in the mid-1970s, several individuals of the species are washed ashore dead every year The eggs laid by the females along the beach are also sold in the local market by the fishermen and traders In 1977, a recovery programme was started by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute Many volunteer organisations in the city, such as the Students’ Sea Turtle Conservation Network and the Sea Turtle Protection Force of the TREE Foundation, geCommon fishes found along the beach include mullets, sharks, silver bellies, rays, ribbon fish, skates, whitebait, dussumieria, Jew fish, horse mackerel, crabs, seer, pellona, pomfret, perches, lactarius, lethrinus, flying fish, engraulis, sardines, lobsters, sabre fish, barracuda, hilsa, tunny fish, Indian salmon, leather jackets, cookup, breams, catfish, snappers, synagris, bonito, soles, polynemus, and prawns, among others involved in conservation of the species along the coast.
The Marina continues to stay the foremost dangerous place to wash or swim, recording the very best number of drownings within the state of Tamilnadu Bathing and swimming are illegal at Marina beach since the undercurrent within the region is extremely strong and there are not any lifeguards stationed here. As many of us throng the beach, very often there are drowning mishaps. An estimated five sea-bathers are drowned monthly at the beach, and most of the swimmers are dragged by the tides into the debris of a tramp ship SS Damatis that sank off the beach during a cyclone in 1966 it also have some historical person statue like anni statue, avvaiyar statue, barathidasan statue, barathiyar statue ,elangovadigal,kambar , kannagi , mahathma Gandhi, subha Chandra bose kamarajan, vivekanadhar , thiruvallur and Indian independence memorial pillar these are the statue placed in the marina beach these statues also make this marina beach special than other beach nowadays marina beach which have lots of wealth and history got polluted because of us humans by throwing waste in the beach and by building houses and covering the marina beaches so we humans can try to not to pollute these historic place
