Health is nothing but the physical condition of our body. As human beings we tend to think twice or thrice about the decisions we take in life, but have we ever thought about taking the right choice in our food which we eat? Let’s take our time to think about it.Choosing healthy food varies from people, their traditions and also includes the growing technology of today. Comparing to the present generation, people during the olden days were much healthier, especially due to their food habits, and we find fewer hospitals during those days.

Healthy balanced diet is a great way to improve our mental as well as physical conditions, and here is how we can classify the healthy food choices during the present generation and during this present situation. Food is taken for taste rather than its nutritional value now, so we can try our maximum efforts to make food healthier than tastier. Like we Indians, we prefer to have our food three times a day, that is breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is how most Indians prefer to have their food.

Healthy breakfast includes eggs, fresh fruits, nuts and etc. These provide us with the necessary energy to boost up for the entire day. And each of these foods provides its best nutritional value, such as eggs provide us with the necessary protein which makes our bones and muscles stronger, and the fruits that we take help us maintain the overall condition of our body.

And it is good to prefer nuts, especially in the morning as it is loaded with many antioxidant properties, and it also aids in weight loss and etc. These foods which we take in the morning are the first thing to provide energy for our body. It’s necessary to have our breakfast every day. Avoiding breakfast can cause gastric problems, diabetes, low immune.
Each individual prefers to take their lunch according to the place, tradition, or individual liking, and it also depends on the person who takes it. So in India, as a good choice, we can prefer to have some nicely cooked millets such as pearl millet, finger millet, barnyard millet along with freshly cooked or sauteed or boiled vegetables such as beans, carrot and beetroot. And with a dhal curry preparation, can make our lunch much healthier and tastier. This food provides us with a balanced diet, and it also contains good dietary fibre which helps us to promote our overall digestive health.

And this food can provide us with the proper carbohydrates needed and vegetables can provide us with the necessary antioxidant and the dhal which is good in dietary fiber promoting in maintaining and boosting our immunity levels.

As Indians, we prefer to have an evening snack between lunch and dinner, so the best and healthier snack recipe is to have flattened rice, otherwise known as poha rice.
Here is a simple recipe using flattened rice. This can be prepared for a healthy evening snack.

Ingredients needed:

1. Flattened rice -1cup
2. Warm water- 3 teaspoons
3. Jaggery powder -2 tablespoons
4. Grated coconut (optional)

Now take a bowl, add flattened rice, Jaggery powder and warm water. Mix everything together. We can add grated coconut for an extra taste. Now the healthy and tasty flattened rice recipe is ready to serve.

Next comes the healthy choice for dinner. We can take whole wheat dosa, whole wheat chapatis ,flattened rice idlis and rava upma .These food provides the necessary and the required energy needed till the next morning. Heavy meals during the night may lead to obesity, slowing down metabolism, and can even cause digestive problems, so it is necessary to have a light meal before going to bed.

Along with a healthy, balanced diet, it is necessary to have good sleep for about 6 hours to 8 hours. Practicing these healthy habits can make us feel physically, mentally strong and brisk throughout the day.

Here is a list of healthy habits that can be followed during this present situation:

1. Avoiding sleeping for more than 8 hours
2. Have an early morning walk for about 30 minutes
3. Avoiding taking too much of caffeine
4. Always keep yourself hydrated with water
5. Avoid sugary foods as much as possible
6. Don’t sit for a long time and move around your house.
7. Eat mindfully and do not sit in front of your electronic devices while eating as it may cause you to eat more and more, causing obesity.
8. Spend time with nature and develop yourself with a positive attitude in a negative situation.
9. Enjoy all your food but, limit it.
10. Along with a healthy, balanced diet and with these healthy habits can promote a better lifestyle.

Eat to live and not live to eat! Eat food which promotes your health and not your tongue!
