Endangered or Earth iN Danger
-Diya Bedi
Endangered species confront each other and discuss their problems.
Polar Bear: Earth’s largest ice sheet is more vulnerable to melt than thought. We all will melt along with it.
Asian Elephant: The glaciers are melting and the sea level is rising causing floods then droughts. We are devoid of freshwater. How will I survive?
Butterflies and bumble bees (flutter their wings in panic): The air is polluted and it is too hot.
Polar Bear: These humans are so ungrateful.
(Everyone agree with Polar Bear)
Butterflies and bees: My dearest friends, flowers and trees are no more. The development of agriculture and industries has ruined the fresh air and evergreen land.
Asian elephants: Do you all know that according to Kyoto protocol, developed countries are required to cut back their greenhouse emissions?
Polar Bear (laughs sarcastically): Do you really think these humans care for anyone? There have been thousands of such plans but none successful.
My home, Antarctica registered hottest climate ever, nearly 65°F.
Butterflies and bees: This global warming is making us crazy. The spring season has become humid and wetter than before. No fixed precipitation.
Suddenly a fleet of birds come in front of the animals, their wings heavy with oil and die.
All endangered animals together: These oil spills! The climate has changed this much that these birds have lost their migration sensing power.
Asian elephants: We will soon replace these birds.
Polar Bear: We are already on the verge of dying. I will meet you in the heaven now. These humans will not change.
Butterflies and bees: Yes, these humans will never try to reverse the damage done by untrammeled growth of global warming.
Asian elephants and polar bear together: I wish God can save us from these humans and from the heat of carbon dioxide.
All animals leave the place in panic.
