“Children”-According to a proverb they are a form of a god. They are truly a source of joy and happiness in one’s house.   As we grew up over time we remember our memories of when we were children. “A phase in one’s life to playing learn and grow’’, away from all worries they have their world of imagination where everything is possible and yes, that makes each child special. Apart from this, they are also the foundations of our coming future. The future of our country depends on them. They need to be educated, explore their capabilities, for continuous growth and overall development.

To recognize such childrens’ rights United Nations declared 20th November as childrens’ day. This day had a spotlight on children’s rights and education so that all had a concern for it. In India, after the death of Prime Minister Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru, his birthday was embarked to be celebrated as Childrens’ Day. The reason behind it was his love for children as he always used to feel full of joy surrounded by them. Children used to call him “Chacha Nehru”. He used to play with them, tell them stories and inspire them to take their country to greater heights. Because of his pleasing personality, all the children used to love his presence. So on this day, he is remembered by people, especially by children.

In India especially this day has greater importance for children, as they eagerly wait for this particular day. Be it schools, colleges, malls, child clinics, etc. in all the places this day is celebrated with much enthusiasm and zeal so that each child can feel special. In institutions like schools, the teachers perform for their students. They perform various forms of dance and funny acts so that they can laugh and enjoy themselves. Eatables like chocolates, ice-creams are distributed among them as a treat. Various activities like painting competitions, singing competitions are also conducted. Even in some schools fair is also organized. During our school days, I remember the “best student-teacher competition” was organized where some children from senior classes were sent to junior classes to teach their favorite subject. Then, after a discussion among the children whom they taught the best senior student who taught as a teacher was awarded. Even a basketball match between students and teachers was conducted, which was a package of excitement to see. It is very pleasant to see that with children even teachers forget their worries and start acting as if they are also a child. For young kids, like those who are in pre-schools they are taken to picnic or for a visit to places like the zoo, play zones, etc. by visiting which they would enjoy themselves. Activities like fancy dress competition, movie watching (cartoon movies) is organized for them, which makes them happy.

In places like hospitals and private child clinics, they celebrate this day by decorating their places to fascinate children, organizing various activities, and encouraging every child to participate in it. They even distribute prizes in the form of small gifts like an educational kit, goodies, vouchers, etc. Other places like malls and shopping centers organize events like an open mic for children and provide free entry for children. They offer special discounts on child cloth wear, eatables and games also. Certain NGOs distribute books, clothes, and eatables to poor children to celebrate this day and also that children who are poor and orphan are also aware of such day of their importance. The NGO’s and other societies as well on this very day conduct a free campaign like health campaign where they freely discuss health issues (for eg. malnutrition) that children face at a very young age and how can they overcome them, apart from this, a general campaign is also conducted where they tell children about their rights like every child has a right to free education up to class 8 with mid-day meal.

These type of campaigns increase the value of childrens’ day where everybody comes forward for a good social cause and inspire the others also to do so. Childrens’ day has a special place in all the childrens’ hearts..as they get the spotlight this day. They feel special and enjoy themselves. They laugh and create memories..they eagerly wait for this day and imagine what will happen on this very day. On the occasion of childrens’ day, many newspapers and magazines conduct a competition and publish the selected work of children like paintings, essays, shorts stories, sketches, etc. These initiatives boost the morale of children and inspire them to get involved in activities that increase their skills and knowledge.

Childrens’ day where people celebrate this day because of Chacha Nehru, to remember him on this day and children are given importance, has made a special place in everybody’s heart. We often remember as a child, had beautiful memories for this day. Those flashbacks bring back those heartwarming moments and takes back us to those days.

Amongst other days like teacher’s day, mother’s day, etc. where each day has its value..childrens’ day has made its distinct place. So, this day cannot be forgotten and will remain unforgotten by everyone because of the tremendous values it contains.
