A Mute Power Within

I would like to begin with a famous proverb once quoted by a renowned personality, “The tree of silence, bears the fruit of peace”. The fact that ascetics, sages, and even commoners voyage all the way up to the Himalayas or any other mountain range for that matter to meditate is merely because of the melody of silence and to escape from the hustle and bustle of life, away from urban chaos. Isn’t it quite astonishing to know that even silence has its own melody like music?

The melody of silence has its own aesthetic value. We hear music before going to bed or at any time of the day to invigorate ourselves and to bid farewell to all the tensions we faced before listening to music, the same way at least 30-40 seconds of silence in a day can turn out to be very enlivening.

A recreational visit to a deserted beach with no accompaniment can provide refreshment to the body and mind. With the support of our gifted mind imagine the scene at a beach in which there is no one else, you get a terrific opportunity to communicate with the sea.  Using the incomprehensive language of the sound of the waves, where the symphony of each wave derives a meaning, sure this will enlighten a sense of remarkable imagination.

Like many languages in the world, ‘Silence’ is also a  language that expresses one’s emotions. Silence is a guide full of answers. When a person is unable to respond to a question raised by someone else it is the language of silence that answers that question. Practicing silence in our daily lives would play a significant role along with perseverance and patience in the overall development of an individual. There is a very good proverb in Kannada that suggests: ‘Speaking is as good as silver and being silent is as good as dazzling gold’. This very proverb comprehends the fact that being silent is better than hurting the sentiments of other people by talking something unnecessary. It is not necessary to traverse to the Himalayas for silence, silence is present within us but is waiting for the right opportunity to exhibit its glory.

To seek peace and solace we meditate or resort to other means but if there is not enough time to do meditation then, switching off all the light and observing a moment of silence is as good as a power nap. Nature’s intention of gifting us two ears and one mouth is that we should listen more and speak less, as we hear:
‘A good listener is a good speaker’.

Listen to the melody of silence it has so much to convey to us. It promotes a sanguine surrounding, a surrounding that is suitable for everyone.
