Sara lived in a world of grey. Sara was colorblind. Sara woke up to the pattering of rain to see the beauty of trees which she could not enjoy. With a sigh, she got out of her bed. She washed up and went down to eat her breakfast. “Good morning mom!” she greeted her mother. Her mother came out of the kitchen smiling to give Sara her breakfast. “Your father will drop you at school today due to the rain,” said her mother. At this, Sara flashed a happy smile. She loved drives in the rain. Excitedly she got ready for school.
She was riding the car with her father on her way to school. Blissfully she gazed out the window. Sara loved the rain as it was a beautiful colourless phenomenon. She hopped out of the car and bid goodbye to her father as they reached the school. She hopped all the way to her class.
Suddenly it struck her that she had an art workshop. She went straight to the art room instead of her homeroom. She explained to the teacher about her disability and received permission for free time during the workshop. Since the workshop was for an entire day it was as good as a holiday so she ran out to see if her father had not left. Unfortunately, he had left, so Sara walked to the library. She picked a few books to study and sat down. Sara had unknowingly dozed off while reading. She woke up after about an hour to the surprise of her life.
She could see color! Sara opened her eyes to the faint sun after the rain and immediately saw the world differently. She didn’t understand what was going on. However, she was extremely amazed at the beauty of the colored world. Quickly she ran to the school gymnasium where the workshop was taking place. Her classmates and teachers did not expect to see her there. They all had surprised and confused looks on their faces. Participants were then painting the scenery which they wanted. Sara however had never seen beautiful scenery in her life before. She dashed to the window to look outside. The street outside the school looked ethereal after the rainfall. Seeing that a rainbow formed due to the sunlight Sara decided to paint the street outside. Blissfully Sara saw the scenery outside for a few minutes. Sara started painting and finished soon. She discovered that she was talented in painting. The judges were amazed by seeing her painting and decided to give her painting a special place in their school. Sara was delighted at hearing that.
After the workshop, she walked back home enthusiastically. She did not inform her mother about her sudden ability to see color fearing that it was temporary. She went up to her room and marked colors around her room. She switched on her laptop and viewed all the colors in the world. She made a color sheet so that she would remember the colors if at all she lost her ability to see color. After much preparation, she decided to enjoy seeing different colors. So she went out for a stroll. She walked about the gorgeous streets. She came across a cute puppy which was tied to a pillar. It started jumping on her legs when she came near. Sara cuddled and stroked the puppy smiling. She wanted to visit the puppy again later. She went back home to eat dinner. Her mother noticed that she was extremely happy that day and asked about it. Sara did not mention her being able to see colors afraid that she may get her parent’s hopes up. She replied saying there was no particular reason. She went to bed smiling that day.
She woke up the next day to the dull world she had known all her life. Though she was dejected, she smiled, grateful for the previous day.
