Thailand is one of the many Southeast Asian countries that acts as a host to a wide range of tourists from across the globe every year. The land of smiles has been true to its name with its sparkling beaches, authentic food, unique shopping experiences and so much more. Based on my trip to Thailand a couple of summers ago, here are the top 5 tourist destinations in Thailand

Bangkok – Visiting the chaotic and colourful capital of Thailand is nothing short of an adventure. Its cosmopolitan feel and vibrant street life is the reason why Bangkok is a must on every traveller’s bucket list. I visited Bangkok a few years back and was breath taken by the duality of the city. Bangkok is famous for its many traditional floating markets, situated on the various canals networking throughout the neighbourhood. Another must-visit for all tourists is the grand palace, home to the temple of the emerald buddha.

Phuket – The sparkling oceans and sandy beaches are just part of the reason why Phuket is one of the most popular destinations in Thailand. Excellent snorkelling destinations, finger-licking good Thai food, and warm sunny days year-round have travellers flocking to Phuket from around the globe. With over 30 beaches peppering Phuket’s breathtaking coast, your summer is sure to be filled with crystal clear ocean views, palm tree infringed beaches and sugar-white sand.

Pattaya – Pattaya’s attractions range from ancient Thai traditions to modern entertainment. The sanctuary of truth is a unique teak structure in Pattaya that portrays the importance of religion, philosophy, and art in human development. Visiting the Four Regions Floating Market is one of the best things to do in Pattaya. The big buddha temple truly lives up to its name, as not just a tourist attraction but an active temple. For those looking for an escape from the monotony of bustling cities, The coral island of Pattaya is void of high rise buildings and away from the clutches of civilization

Chiang Mai – Chiang Mai is essentially Thailand’s smaller city and a more relaxed alternative to the bustling city of Bangkok. Once the capital of the Lanna kingdom, it is now a centre for backpackers and travellers. The city has plenty of things to do, with its natural scenery, breathtaking animals, and unique communities hidden away in the mountains.

Its often said that travelling first leaves you speechless, and then turns you into a storyteller. A trip to Thailand is sure to quench your wanderlust and maybe you’ll make a few memories along the way.
